Do I get Raw Footage from my Wedding
Let’s start our complete San Diego wedding videographer FAQ (2025) with a commercial topic, raw footage. Raw footage isn’t in every package, but you can add it if you want. It includes all the video clips we filmed, just as they happened, with no editing. If you want to see every moment, we’re happy to provide it for you; just let us know when you book. Before you decide, here are some simple reasons why some couples ask for raw footage (and why you might want to, too). So, lets go over the first reason in our complete San Diego wedding videographer FAQ (2025)
Some Moments Were not Included
This is the most common reason couples ask for raw footage. Most wedding videographers today only include a short highlight video. According to Lune de Miel Studio, the industry standard is typically 5 to 9 minutes long. This is called the cinematic style, and you can read more about it here.
But it’s hard to fit every memorable moment from your whole day into just a few minutes. Many couples watch their video and remember a part that meant a lot to them, but it wasn’t in the final film. I came up with a little riddle for this problem over the past year to reflect the mentality surrounding this issue. But, it’s not the complete issue.
When everything can’t be fit,
Some things must be quit.
A sweet little smile, a hug, or a dance
Without raw footage, they don’t get a chance.
It’s not the industry standard, but it’s our standard. That’s just how we do things.
I get it, it might seem strange or unusual to make a rhyme like this. But like I said, it’s not as simple as just hitting a button. Editing every aspect of the wedding requires a significant amount of time and effort. For your highlight video, I carefully reviewed the ceremony and speeches to select the best parts to include.
While you read our complete San Diego wedding videographer FAQ (2025), just know that these are our set standards. Your next question might be, so doesn’t everyone just send the whole thing? That depends on the videographer. But for us, we’re happy to share it. It’s not the industry standard, but it’s our standard. That’s just how we do things.
The Client Just Does Not Like it
This is probably the least likely scenario, depending on whether you did do your research on the person, their style, and what their work usually looks like. Or maybe the videographer just made a poor edit. That’s okay, ask for the RAW footage. I haven’t had this happen yet, but that’s okay. If you ask, we will give you the option to buy it from us.

Typical Turn Around Time
It depends on the season, but under-promise and over-deliver is always my goal here at TDM. I request a month of editing for our hybrid cinematic/documentary, which falls during the slow season. For a Cinematic Documentary, we ask for two months. During the busy season, we extend it by a month. This is what I do full time, so it sometimes takes me one to two (1-2) weeks on the highlight videos during the regular season, and seven to eight (7-8) weeks on the higher-end videos. The industry standard is eight to twelve weeks (8-12 weeks), depending on the season.
This is the complete San Diego wedding videographer FAQ (2025), based on our standards once again. But not everyone has this kind of turnaround time. You might be asking, “How can we promise such a fast turnaround time?” We use time code, and all the footage throughout the day is being synced frame by frame. This isn’t a wedding industry standard, but it is a film and documentary standard.
How is Music Selected for My Wedding Film?
Some industry standards are meant to be kept. I use Musicbed for all our music needs. As I mentioned before, we listen to all the sections of your event, select moments based on the emotion or feeling being portrayed, and choose a key and BPM that match that moment. We also use assets to be able to remix in other songs together or make our own song with layered pads, risers, transitions, etc. We extend this selection every year. You can see an example in the video below.
What’s Included in Your Standard Package
We offer only two packages, and the first one covers approximately 85% of all weddings in the San Diego area. Our standard package includes a highlight video and a full edit of your ceremony and speeches from your wedding day. This covers standard weddings across the San Diego and South North County Area.
Our second package is for weddings that don’t fit our standard price. This means larger luxury weddings, weddings that require more videographers, editing time, and shooting time. For those weddings, we will provide you with a competitive quote.
Can I Request Edits After Receiving the Final Film?
Once again, I must preface that this is TDM’s comprehensive San Diego Wedding videographer FAQ (2025), which means that it reflects our standard of operations. We offer three (3) editing rounds for your wedding film. So far this year, we have only had clients use one (1) of their editing rounds.
Do you Travel Outside of San Diego?
Yes, we do. I have traveled all the way to Ohio to finish a film for a client. My primary goal in every film is to interview you, determine what matters most to you, and collaborate with the right people to create a film that best fits your needs, as outlined during our initial meeting. This also depends on a couple of factors, but in general, that is my goal.
